Dermal gadolinium retention following formulated gadodiamide (low-stability, linear gadolinium chelate) administration was associated with collagen fibrils extracellularly and intracellularly with collagen fibril fragments in fibroblasts, effects not seen with gadoterate meglumine (high-stability, macrocyclic gadolinium chelate).
